Peterson Posts Win in Flat Hot Dog Special; Holden, Schneider, and Maskal Also Triumph

(Franklin, PA June 19, 2022):  Ohio driver Rickie Peterson came east to have a little bit of fun. After a flat tire ended his Saturday night performance at another area speedway, he gained a bit of redemption on Sunday evening at Tri-City Raceway Park. He dominated the twenty-five lapper for the Shawgo Real Estate, LLC 410 Sprint Cars.

Also winning on Father’s Day were Jimmy Holden (Donovan & Bauer Auto Group 358 Modifieds), Chris Schneider (Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks), and Levi Maskal (4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks).

Peterson’s car owner, Jeremy Kornbau, dubbed the machine “the flat hot dog special,” after the disappointing run. He claimed that all that he could afford was bologna sandwiches. However, he proudly proclaimed that the team was headed to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate their victory.

Peterson drew the pole for the twenty-five lapper. Rod Jones lined up on his flank. Carl Bowser and Chase Metheney were in row two. The third row had Bob Felmlee and Jack Sodeman, Jr., Leyton Wagner and A.J. Flick were paired in row four. The fifth row belonged to Jeremy Weaver and Steve Bright. The sixth went to Brent Matus and Logan McCandless.

Peterson took the lead at the drop of the green. If his car had a rear view mirror, he would have had a spectacular view of Jones’ wheelie coming off turn two. That costly miscue gave Peterson even more breathing room, as other racers had to check up.

Metheney latched onto second and held the position for most of the race. Eighth place starter, Flick, overhauled him early in the second half of the contest, but Peterson was too far ahead for Flick to become a threat.

After Peterson and Flick came Metheney for a career-best run at Tri-City Raceway Park. Sodeman and Bowser completed the top five.

McCandless, Jones, Weaver, Brent Matus, and Bright rounded out the top ten.

Bob Felmlee added some excitement to the early stages of the race. He flipped wildly in turn four with two laps completed. The veteran racer was not hurt, but the car was unable to continue.

The pair of heat wins for the Shawgo Real Estate, LLC 410 Sprint Cars went Peterson and Rod Jones. Peterson made a bold last lap pass to take the win away from Western PA hotshoe, A.J. Flick. There was no B Main for the thirteen-car field.

Jimmy “the Jet” Holden bolted from his outside pole starting position to lead the way in the twenty-lap feature for the Donovan & Bauer Auto Group 358 Modifieds. Kevin Hoffman, who had the pole, hounded Holden all the way through the race, but he could not get his nose inside the feet number 28H.

Jeremiah Shingledecker started in sixth and was fourth on the opening lap. After several rounds, he moved ahead of Mike Kinney. Near the halfway mark, Jeremiah Shingledecher moved into third. He began to close on Hoffman and Holden in the final five laps, but he ran out of time to make it a three-car race.

Taking fourth was Nick Joy, ahead of Kinney. Kyle Fink, Travis Shingledecker, Kevin Green, and Jeremy Beichner completed the field.

In the Donovan & Bauer Auto Group 358 Modifieds, Jimmy Holden wired the field in the heat race. There was no B Main, as only nine cars appeared for this event.

Chris Schneider took off from the front row in the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stock main event. Inside of him was Charlie McMillen. Pat Fielding and Jason Johns started behind them. Josh Seippel and Curtis J. Bish rolled away from row three.

Schneider grabbed the lead, driving the potent number 24 usually driven by teenager Tyler Wyant. Schneider poured on the coals and built up a commanding lead. Jason Johns was running second, a good distance behind the leader, but far ahead of the third place runner.

After Schneider and Johns came  Fielding and Seippel, who battled door to door for most of the race. Rod Laskey was fifth. McMillen, Aaron Smith, and Bish were the other finishers.

In the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks, Jason Johns was the heat winner. There was no B Main, as only nine cars signed in for the evening’s events.

In the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks, Levi Maskal came from fourteenth to get the win, his second of the season. He chased down Justin Bailey, the defendning track champion to get the win.

D.J. Macrae held the early lead, but fell back. He fought his way back to fourth, one spot behind Nick Steiger. Dillon Thorne was fifth.

Sixth was Paul Marsh, in just his second outing. Seventh was Chad Greeley, then Jason Swartz, Matt Urey, and Bodey McClintock. McClintok has his turn out front, too, before giving the lead to Bailey.

In the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks, a pair of heats were held. Taking the checkers were Justin Bailey and Bodey McClintock. There was no B Main for the fifteen cars on hand.

Next weekend, June 26, Tri-City Raceway Park will present a Sunday Thunder program, consisting of the four championship classes. The Shawgo Real Estate, LLC 410 Sprinys will headline, as usual, with the Donovan & Bauer Auto Group 358 Modifieds putting in a cameo appearance. Also on the bill will be the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks, and the economical 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks.

Then, over the July 4 holiday weekend, the speedway will be in action three consecutive nights. Friday, July 1, will be reserved as a practice session for all classes. There will be free grandstand admission that night. Competition will begin on Saturday night, July 2, with the Shawgo Real Estate, LLC 410 Sprints, the Donovan & Bauer Auto Group 358 Modifieds, and the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks. There will also be qualifying for the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks. Sunday, July 3, will see the return of the ground pounding Big Block Modifieds from teh BRP Tour. The Shawgo Real Estate, LLC 410 Sporints will be back, along with the RUSH Sprint Cars. The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks will race, as will the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks.  The Junior Sprints will also be on hand. There will be celebratory fireworks during the program, and, after this fabulous show, there will be a big bonfire. There will be free camping on the grounds throughout the weekend.
