RUSH Sprints Added to Program at Tri-City Raceway Park
(Franklin, PA August 22, 2023): The final Sunday Thunder program at Tri-City Raceway Park just got bigger. Promoter Merle Black has added the RUSH Sprint Cars to the August 27 event, which already included the A & MP electric, Inc. UMP Modifieds. So, fans will see a spectacular six-division show, all for regular ticket prices!
The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Sprint Cars will compete in a Sunbelt Rentals Weekly Series event paying a healthy $1,000 to win and $500 for second place. All of the top regional racers are expected, including Gale Ruth, Jr., Chad and Kevin Ruhlman, Blaze Myers, Arnie Kent, Brian Hartzell, and A.J. MacQuarrie. Thanks go out to Billy Myers for securing the additional sponsorship, with more details to be announced. The RUSH Sprints race without wings and use GM Crate engines, so the cars will be competing closely on the spacious half mile oval. They will provide an interesting contrast to the winged warriors that race regularly at Tri-City Raceway Park.
The Diehl Chevrolet 410 Sprint division headlines the Sunday Thunder program. By virtue of his third place finish last week, A.J. Flick now has a twenty-eight point margin over Bob Felmlee in the quest for his second straight track championship. But Jack Sodeman, Jr. is only thirty-two points behind Flick. Sodeman is a multi-time track champion, so he knows how to race for a championship, too. Brandon Spithaler is expected back after spending a weekend on the road chasing one of the national touring series. Andy Cavanaugh, Bodey McClintock, Steven Bright, and many more racers will be on hand.
The Pitt Stop Pub 358 Modifieds will have a tune-up for the big Labor Day weekend shows. The Mod squad will be able to race twice over the holiday, as all 358 Modified racers will be eligible to compete against the BRP Modified Tour on Saturday and then the track regulars will square off on Sunday evening. But, first things first. Ayden Cipriano stretched his advantage to thirty-three points over veteran Chad Reitz. Consistent Tom Holden and young Hayden Holden will be in action. We expect to see New Yorker Nick Joy back after taking a week off anticipating the birth of his daughter.
Tyler Wyant also built upon his point lead in the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks. Pat Fielding is in striking distance though. Josh Seippel is working his way up the ranks, with a pair of wins in his brand new machine. Bobby Whitling had a good run but he has extra duties on race day, getting a second car ready for his teenaged son, Jake, who is making his initial starts in the division.
The 4 Your Car Connection Four Cylinder Mini Stocks still has Matt Urey leading the way. His win on Sunday, plus the absence of his arch rival, Levi Maskal, has staked Urey to a commanding lead. Chad Greeley is now in second in the points battle, but he is nearly sixty points behind Urey.
The A & MP electric, Inc. UMP Modifieds will return courtesy of the Guys Mills business operated by veteran racer Mike Potosky. Dan Davies won the first round.
The Pit gates will open at 2 p.m., with spectator gates opening at 4 p.m. Racing will start at 6 p.m.
Despite the two additional divisions, the regular ticket pricing will apply. So, adults (ages 16 to 62) will see six classes for just $15, and seniors (ages 62 and up) and students (ages 10 to 16) for $13. Children (under age 10) will be admitted for free. The Family Pass will be available for $45. That admits two adults of any age and two students. Pit Passes will be $30.
Then, the Labor Day weekend blowout will close out the season. Practice in all divisions will be held Friday night. The BRP Big Block Modified Tour will headline the program on Saturday, with the Diehl Chevrolet 410 Sprint Cars topping the card on Sunday night. Other classes will be in action on both nights. The bonfire and live music will be presented on Sunday after all of the racing is done. Additional details will be announced soon.
