Point Battles Continue Sunday at Tri-City Raceway Park
(Franklin, PA June 22, 2021): As the racing season nears the halfway mark, four familiar names appear at the top of the point standings at Tri-City Raceway Park. Will the leaders build up their cushions, or will their rivals whittle away at the margins? You will need to be there to see for yourself.
In the Shawgo Real Estate LLC 410 Sprint division, defending champion Jack Sodeman, Jr. leads the standings on the strength of multiple feature wins. He has 375 points to his credit. Brandon Matus has yet to score a victory, so, if he can get the breakthrough win, that will help to close the twenty-three point gap. His father, Brent Matus, sits in the third spot with 291 markers. Kyle Colwell is just two points behind him. Bob Felmlee is fifth with 270 points.
Carl Bowser, a recent winner at another area speedway, has 269 points, so a win on Sunday would move him into fifth. Thirty points down is Brandon Spithaler. Young Chase Metheny is eighth at 217 points. George Hobaugh, with 210 points, and Darin Gallagher, with 205, complete the top ten. New York invader Matt Farnham has 203, so he could reach the top ten with a little luck on his side.
Jeremiah Shingledecker, the leading winner in the Krill Recycling 358 Modifieds, leads the way with 406 points. One-time winner Kevin Hoffman has 370 points, but that is only five ahead of the third place driver, Jimmy Holden. Kyle Fink just scored his first win of 2021 at another area speedway, so a triumph at Tri-City could give him the boost that he needs to move up. Fink has 341 points, which is 30 to the good over teenager Nathan McDowell.
Sid Unverzagt, Jr. has finally gotten some good finishes and he now sits sixth in the standings with 301 points. Eric Beggs is just ten points behind. Divisional rookie, Curt Bish, has eighth place nailed down with 282 points. Ryan Riffe checks in at the ninth spot with 260 points. Two racers are tied for tenth with 249 markers apiece, D.J. Schrader and Max Smoker. Lonnie Riggs has 247 pints and, if he can build upon his recent successes, he could move into the top ten.
The closest battle for supremacy is in the Hovis Truck & Auto Supply Pro Stock class. William Hurrelbrink’s consistency has him in control, with 296 points, even though he has yet to take a checkered flag. Josh Seippel, with a single win, is just ten points from the lead. Young Tyler Wyant, with a win under his belt, has 282 points, so he is in the thick of things, too. And, let’s not forget Curtis J. Bish, who is fourth with 277 points. Darr Diegelman is fifth with 260 points.
Douh Iorio, II, is sixth with 227 points. Josh Blum has 220 points and Curt Bish has 208. Patrick Fielding is ninth with 193 points, and Mike Bordt is tenth with 169.
Dalton Speer, with multiple wins in the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks, leads with 408 points, the highest tally of any driver in any division. His arch rival, Justin Bailey, has 392 points. Chad Greeley is third with 344 markers and he’s looking to get that elusive first win. He has a two point advantage over Evan Sobieski and an eleven point margin over D.J. Macrae.
Jamie Tasker holds down sixth with 307 points. Levin Wice, with 277 points, and Todd Hanlon, with 243, are next in line. Brayden Seippel, in his first season behind the wheel, has 240 points, good for ninth. Veteran Pat Hanlon is tenth with 222 points.
The action will start at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening. Gates will open at 4 for the fans and 2 for the racers. Come out early to get your favorite seats.
Regular event ticket pricing will apply. Adult admission (ages 16 to 62) will be $15. Seniors (ages 62 and up) will be $13. Students (ages 11 through 16) will be $10. Children (ages 10 and under) will be free. Family Passes will be $46, and that applies to two adults of any age and two students. Pit Passes will be $30.
If you cannot make it to Tri-City Raceway Park this weekend, there will be another Sunday Thunder card on the July 4 holiday. Plus, there will be fireworks to celebrate the occasion.
