Tri-City Raceway Park Opens Sunday

(Franklin, PA April 26, 2022):  Tri-City Raceway Park will kick off the 2022 racing season this Sunday, May 1, with action scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Four divisions of racers will compete on the big oval located at 3430 State Route 417 in Oakland Township.

Once again, the headline class will be the 410 Sprint Cars, which will be sponsored by Shawgo Real Estate LLC. The reigning champion, Brandon Matus of Wampum, PA, will be ready to defend his title and to maintain family bragging rights. His father, veteran Brent Matus, will be in the field, along with former title holder Jack Sodeman, Jr. Many other drivers will also try to chalk up their first wins of the season.

Jeremiah Shingledecker, from nearby Polk, PA, will lead the 358 Modified contingent. Lonny Riggs, Jimmy Holden, Franklin’s own Kevin Hoffman, and many more racers will be on hand. Typically, early season races at Tri-City Raceway Park have a number of New Yorkers in action, as most of the northern tracks have yet to open. There will be a new benefactor for them all as the Donovan and Bauer Auto Group has increased its involvement from a special events sponsor for 2022.

The popular Hovis Auto and Truck Supply Pro Stocks will be on the card, too. Curtis J. Bish will try to defend his title at the wheel of the famous Tarr Motorsports machine. This team has been together for more than a decade, and such experience and chemistry will be hard to beat. But plenty of tough hombres will give him a run for his money, including yeenager Tyler Wyant aof Franklin.

Justin Bailey and Dalton Speer went back and forth as the front runners in the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks. Bailey got the advantage and clinched the championship when Speer had some mechanical problems late in the 2021 season. You can bet that Speer did his homework over the winter to make sure that his car will be ready for the challenge ahead. The Mini Stocks are street legal cars modified for safety and they are the most economical way to get started in the racing game. You, too, could be in the thick of the action!

Regular event ticket pricing will apply for this spectacular program. So, adults (ages 16 to 62) will be admitted for $15, and seniors (ages 62 and up) will be admitted for $13. Student tickets (for those aged 10 to 16) will be $10. Children (up to age 10) will be admitted for free. The Family Pass will be $45, and that will be good for two adults of any age and two students. Pit Passes will be $30.

Gates will open at 2 p.m. for the competitors, and 4 p.m. for the spectators. Racing will begin at 6 p.m.

Please remember that Tri-City Raceway Park will be dark on Mother’s Day, May 8. Racing will resume on May 22nd.
