Double Points on the Line Sunday at Tri-City Raceway Park
(Franklin, PA July 6, 2022): The July 4 holiday extravaganza gave the racers two opportunities to pad their points for the season championships at Tri-City Raceway Park and they will get the chance to do it again this weekend. However, it will be on one night of racing instead of two. That’s right, the Sunday Thunder program to be held on July 10 will offer double the points for all competitors!
Jack Sodeman, Jr., a former track champion, used the two races to leap into the points lead in the Shawgo Real Estate, LLC 410 Sprint Cars. He now leads Carl Bowser by just three counters. Chase Metheney is within striking distance, trailing Sodeman by eleven points. In fact, the double points format could even give Jeremy Weaver, Bob Felmlee, or Steve Bright the chance to climb into contention.
A.J. Flick only raced one of the two shows last weekend, finishing second to Sye Lynch on Sunday, so he fell out of the points lead. Flick now sits ninth in the rankings, behind Brandon Matus and ahead of Brandon Spithaler, the winner of the Saturday go. A good run by Flick and a little luck could give him a chance to rejoin the leaders.
In the Donovan & Bauer Auto Group 358 Modifieds, Jeremiah Shingledecker backed up his win Saturday with a non-point victory against the BRP Modified Tour on Sunday. Nonetheless, he now has a commanding seventy-seven point advantage over his brother, Travis. The former point leader, Jimmy Holden, is now third, one point behind the younger member of the Shingledecker family. Nick Joy and Mike Kinney are in teh top five, and could move ahead in the rankings with some success on Sunday. Other drivers to watch are Lonny Riggs and Kyle Fink.
Jason Johns holds a slim one-point margin over the machine driven by Tyler Wyant and Chris Schneider. Scheider won the opener in that car, but he was back in his familiar 55 car for Ray’s Race, a $5,000 victory with the Penn Ohio Pro Stock Series. Wyant will probably pilot the car against the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply competition this week. Pat Fielding, Josh Seippel, Rod Laskey, and Curtis J. Bish are also expected.
Levi Maskal remains undefeated in the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks. Despite starting last in a field of twenty-two racers, Maskal took top honors on Sunday evening for the fourth time! He will start last again this week, so the question will be “can he do it again?” Matt Urey, Chad Greeley, Bodey McClintock, and more than a dozen other racers want to be the first to defeat Maskal the rascal.
Racing will start at six p.m. Pit gates will be open at 2 p.m. and the grandstands will open at 4 p.m.
Regular event ticket pricing will apply. So, adults (ages 16 to 62) will be admitted for $15, and seniors (ages 62 and up) will be admitted for $13. Student tickets (for those aged 10 to 16) will be $10. Children (up to age 10) will be admitted for free. The Family Pass will be $45, and that will be good for two adults of any age and two students. Pit Passes will be $30.
If you cannot make it to the track this weekend, another Sunday Thunder program will be held on July 17.
