Speedweek Finale at Tri-City Raceway Park Sunday
(May 31, 2023): The final round of the Western Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek will be held at Tri-City Raceway Park on June 4. The series was revived by a former track official, Tyler Beichner. “We are really proud of what Tyler has accomplished with this series,” said track owner Merle Black. “Hosting the final round adds some drama and excitement to our racing program.”
The series will kick off on Wednesday, May 31, at Knox Raceway. The winged 410 Sprint Cars will then head south for a visit to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. The third stop on the tour will be at Lernerville Speedway. A short jaunt across the border to Sharon Speedway for round four will proceed the race at Tri-City Raceway Park.
All of the races will pay $3,000 to the winner, with a solid payout through the field.
Last season, A.J. Flick swept the three races that were held. Two were lost to rain. He claimed the Speedweek win and the series championship at Tri-City, on his way to clinching the track championship as well. Regional forecasts are favorable to complete all races in 2023, so Flick has some work ahead of him. But, he is ready. He’s coming off of a three-race winning streak which included triumphs at Lernerville, PPMS, and Tri-City.
Other top drivers from the Diehl Chevrolet Sprint Cars will be on hand to defend the home turf, including former track champion Jack Sodeman, Jr., Brandon Spithaler, Bob Felmlee, and Jeremy Weaver, who matched a career best 410 Sprint Car finish of second last week.
Joining the Sprint Cars will be the other three divisions that make up the Sunday Thunder line-up. The 358 Modifieds will go for the second time this season. Can Ayden Cipriano pick up another win? Will Bobby Whitling repeat in the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks? And, how about those hot Hondas in the 4 Your Car Connection Four Cylinder Mini Stocks? Matt Urey and Levi Maskal each have a win in 2023.
The racing action will begin at 6 p.m. Practice sessions will start at about 5:30. The pit gates will open at 2 and the spectator gates will open at 4 p.m. Come out early to get your favorite seats!
Adult admission will be $20. Seniors (ages 62 and up) and Students (ages 10 through 16) will be $15. Children under 10 years of age will be admitted for free, as usual. Pit passes will be $35.
Remember that there will be no racing at Tri-City Raceway Park on June 11. Instead, there will be an All American Rodeo Company event presented by the International Professional Rodeo Association on Saturday, June 10.
Racing will resume on Father’s Day, June 18. The awards will also be presented to the top racers from 2022 in the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks and the 4 Your Car Connection Mini Stocks.
