Sunday Thunder on Tap at Tri-City Raceway Park

(Franklin, PA August 8, 2023):  An unexpected schedule change gives the Diehl Chevrolet 410 Sprint Cars one extra race to accumulate points toward the coveted track championship.

The Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (B.O.S.S.) was supposed to headline the racing action at the track this Sunday, August 13. But when series organizers were unable to book a companion show in the region for Saturday, B.O.S.S. officials asked track owner Merle Back to take the event off the racing calendar in order to save the traveling racers expenses. You see, the B.O.S.S. organization is based in South Central Ohio, and many of its regular competitors are from Indiana, and it would be too costly for them to travel to Western Pennsylvania for a stand-alone race.

“We are disappointed that the B.O.S.S. Sprints will not be racing with us on Sunday,” Black said. “Many of our fans were looking forward to seeing a traditional Sprint Car race at Tri-City.”

The date became available for the Diehl Chevrolet Sprint Cars when a nearby track ceased its operations for the season. “This turn of events gives our weekly Sprint Cars another race date,” Black added.

Now, Bob Felmlee has another race to chip away at the point lead held by defending track champion, A.J. Flick, from the second race of the 2023 season. Just 24 markers separate them. Jack Sodeman, Jr., also a former champion at Tri-City, is only 40 points behind Flick, so he too has a mathematical shot at taking back the crown. These three racers, and many others, are expected to return to Tri-City on Sunday, August 13.

In addition to the Diehl Chevrolet 410 Sprints, the track’s other regular divisions will be in action.

The Pitt Stop Pub 358 Modifieds will be on hand. Can young Ayden Cipriano build upon his 22 point advantage over veteran Chad Reitz? Both racers are gunning for their first track titles, and there will be other talented racers looking to make their marks in the Tri-City record books.

In the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Pro Stocks, Franklin teenager Tyler Wyant leads veterans Rod Lasky and Pat Fielding by 41 and 42 points, respectively.

The 4 Your Car Connection Four Cylinder Mini Stocks has the closest points battle in progress. Matt Urey leads his friend, Levi Maskal, by only three markers. This contest could go down to the wire!

Regular event ticket pricing will apply for the August 13 program. So, adults can see all of the action for $15, and seniors (ages 62 and up) and students (ages 10 to 16) for $13. Remeber that children (under age 10) are free at Tri-City Raceway Park. The Family Pass will be available for $45, and that will apply to two adults of any age and two students. Pit Passes will be available for $30.

The Pit gates will open at 2 p.m., and spectator gates will open two hours later. Racing will begin at 6 p.m.

If you cannot make it to the track next week, remember that there will be added attractions coming in the weeks ahead. August 20 will have regular Sunday Thunder racing sponsored by the Moose Club. There will be extra money on the line for the Diehl Chevrolet 410 Sprints and the 4 Your Car Connection Four Cylinder Mini Stocks. There will also be Bike Races for teh children (helmets required). Then, on August 27, UMP Modifieds will be added to the Sunday Thunder program.
